Routines for the month of March

Hello Everyone,
I hope that everyone has found the new routines a helpful acquisition to their teaching strategies. This blog will enable you to quickly put into words the successes that you are experiencing as well as any issue or new idea you have come across in the process of introducing them.
The posters should help to remind both you and the students of the language and the situations in which the routines can be used.
The blogs will cut down on the need for us to meet regularly for discussion and it will enable you to respond in your own time.
I really look forward to hearing about your "adventures" with routines!!!

  1. Thanks for creating this blog, Susan, and I look forward to watching it chart the progress we are making at Sacred Heart as we seek to create a 'culture of thinking.' Your thinking fits in so well with the pedagogical framework that underpins the new Australian National Curriculum.

  2. Hi Susan,
Just wanted to let you know that we've been using the "What makes you say that?" with our questioning lately and it's really probing the children to think more. Eg. We had an interesting discussion about the Easter Bunny and why the children think it's a boy - lots of entertaining thoughts when we pushed them to explain their thinking! We also used it when we were reflecting on how a lesson went and the kids started by just saying 'great' or 'fun', but then when they explained why they thought that we got some good insight.
Anyway, it's a great strategy and is really pushing the kids to think a bit more - very interesting!
    Thanks Susan,
    Lucy & Hannah
